Betting Tax - What is it?                    As from 6th October 2001 Betting Tax to the Customer will not be taken. The Bookmaker will still pay Betting Tax to The Government but this will be from their profits and not from customers directly. Starting Prices - Where do they come from? The SP, as it is known, is the official price of each horse. It is calculated by an odds compiler at the race track by taking the average price of each selection running from the on-course Bookmakers. Taking this into account you may prefer to 'fix' the price when placing the bet, instead of waiting for the fluctuating S.P (but beware it can work both ways!)
